Accommodation Policy

Purpose and Values

This policy outlines LLIR’s responsibilities related to accessibility and accommodation for members. LLIR will treat members in a way that allows the maintenance of dignity and independence.

Policy

LLIR will endeavour to find solutions to all legitimate requests for accommodation within its purview. Where a specific accommodation remedy may lie with Glendon Campus, our facility landlord, LLIR will work with the landlord to determine possible solutions.

Application

This policy applies to the following designated persons:

  • Members
  • Course Directors and guest lecturers
  • Guests

Request for Accommodation Process

Note: Some accommodations are very straightforward and do not require a formal or complex process

When a member requests an accommodation, the following process is followed:

Step 1: Recognizing the Need for Accommodation

  • Requested by the member at time of each new course registration
  • Communicated to the Class Chair at the beginning of a class

Step 2: Gathering Relevant Information and Assessing Needs

  • The member is an active participant in this step.
  • LLIR (Registration/Membership) and the member explore a range of specific and universal accommodations to find the most appropriate measure.

Appropriate Accommodations

The aim of accommodation is to remove barriers and ensure equity. Accommodations will be developed on an individualized basis. Appropriate accommodations may include:

  • Reserved front-of-room seating
  • Human support

This list is not exhaustive.

Accommodation Policy approved by motion at the meeting of the Board of Directors on April 1, 2025.
