Code of Conduct for LLIR Members

Living and Learning in Retirement (LLIR) is committed to providing a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Our Code of Conduct is grounded in the principles of the Ontario Human Rights Code, which promotes dignity, mutual respect, and belonging for all.

This Code of Conduct reflects the values of LLIR. It establishes the principles and expectations for the behaviour expected of all LLIR members to help us maintain a safe and supportive community.

LLIR members will:

  • Uphold the reputation and integrity of LLIR, and comply with the bylaw, policies, and practices which guide it.
  • Show respect for all persons, and refrain from words or actions that demonstrate discrimination, intimidation, or harassment toward other members.
  • Keep confidential any personal and private information that may come to their knowledge during their roles, duties, and responsibilities with LLIR.
  • Act with honesty and integrity when fulfilling their roles and responsibilities and transacting any business on behalf of LLIR.
  • Respect the property and rules at the Glendon College campus.
  • Abide by the health guidelines laid out by the province, the city and Glendon College.

The following actions are not permitted at LLIR events or on campus:

  • The use of profane, insulting, or offensive language or gestures
  • Indecent or disruptive behaviour
  • Physical assault or threats
  • Possession of dangerous objects or firearms
  • Distribution of materials or sales, or soliciting members without LLIR authorization
  • Persistent breach of classroom rules or etiquette
  • Disruptive behaviour during classes
  • Providing false information during investigations by an LLIR Board member

Please be mindful of your fellow learners:

  • Stay home if you are unwell
  • Avoid disturbing the class with
    • phones
    • electronic devices (the back row is reserved for laptop or tablet use)
    • talking to members during the announcements and lectures
  • Arrive on time and minimize disruption if entering or leaving late
  • Refrain from using strong perfumes or colognes, which can trigger allergic responses in others
  • Do not save seats beyond 10 minutes before class starts
  • Do not interrupt the speaker during the lecture, or dominate question period by asking multiple questions and/or engaging the Course Director in debate.

To ensure a smooth and respectful learning environment:

  • Attend only the class for which you are registered
  • Show and wear your name badge, with emergency contact info on the back
  • Do not bring guests without the Course Chair or Program Chair’s approval
  • Food is not allowed in the lecture hall; drinks are permitted
  • Dispose of waste and recyclables properly
  • Store belongings under your seat to prevent tripping hazards
