You sometimes want to notify members of conditions at Glendon Campus that can affect their experience attending lectures. The list below gives some sample situations that members may want to be aware of before going to class:
- Elevators or washrooms out of order
- Any changes to usual parking or TTC service near campus
- Availability of refreshments in York Hall
- …
This page describes how the webmaster can turn on a conditional element to display the notice below on the top of the Welcome to LLIR and Member Home pages.
current_date: customize this text to the situation. For Example: Elevators near A100 out of service or The drive down to valley parking is closed.
Note: Both public and member-only homepages display the notice so that members see it without logging in. The actual date is resolved by a WordPress plugin called Shortcode For Current Date. The conditional element that you modify by following the instructions below displays the notice above page titles.
This element works like the Lectures Cancelled element, but you use it differently:
- You edit the content of the element change the wording of the notice as appropriate.
- You can enter the wording in advance and set the expiry date-and-time when you turn the element on.
- Set the expiry date-and-time to when you want to element switch off automatically. As the situation changes, you can adjust the expiry setting.
Instructions
Follow these steps to turn the conditional element on. It turns off automatically at the expiry date and time you set.
- From the WordPress dashboard, click Appearance and then Element.
A panel that lists all defined elements appears. - Select the Facilities Notice element and click Edit.
- Edit the contents of the element, (the text above) but take care not to change the “current_date” or the [ ] that surround those characters.
While the element is open for editing, you can see a HTML comment that does appear when the page is displayed but contains a copy of the original text on the red background. - Make sure the word Element is underlined at the top of the panel on the right of the editor. Open the Element Settings panel by clicking the button above the words Element Settings in the image on the right.
- Scroll down the Element Settings panel to Expires Setting and click the down-arrowhead to expand that option.
- Leave the Enable Expires switch in the ON position ( O).
- Set the date to the date and time when the notice is no longer needed.
By setting an expiry time that is in the future, you turn the element on when you save it.
By setting an expiry time that is in the past, you turn the element off when you save it. - Test by opening the LLIR website as a before you log in to verify that the notice appears on the Welcome to LLIR page. Log in and check that it also appears on the Member Home page. You can optionally verify that it appears on no other pages.
- Test again at or after the expiry time that you set to make sure the notice no longer appears.

This image is from the element settings for Lectures Cancelled but is identical to what you see for Facilities Notice except for the element name.
